After a hectic couple of weeks with Beach Hop 21 closely followed by Easter, the Club has ended our 20/21 Financial Year on a high.

In the first instance myself as Manager along with our Executive Committee, wish to thank all our staff who have continued to provide service to our membership through such a turbulent year. Not only has lockdown and Covid made staffing extra hard we have also had to accommodate unprecedented disruptions combined with upsurges in member activity. We have been fortunate in Whangamata that we have become a destination to escape the cities, and with no overseas travel we experienced a very busy Winter post lockdown. A covid scare in late August saw limiting numbers reintroduced and then came the start of Summer with Labour Weekend followed in November with a large Golf Tournament and of course Beach Hop 2020. Before you could say time for a break a busy summer season ensued with seemingly endless long weekends, another lockdown finally culminating in Beach Hop 2021 and days later Easter. During Summer we were fortunate to have had some excellent new recruits some of whom returned to assist with Beach Hop and Easter. Many of our dedicated permanent staff are now looking for some well-deserved R&R after all that. However, to achieve this we increasingly require more qualified staff to cover leave of all kinds as a Club as big as yours both in physical size and services offered we can no longer operate on the traditional voluntary model whilst navigating the minefield of compliance and legislation and continue to grow.


What next……………………

Although we continue to look for solutions, due to increased activity and membership we may now experience times where our operational capability and staff resources may affect the service we would like to offer, so we ask that members be considerate of this current situation whilst we adjust our operational models to suit this challenging environment. You may experience small delays and changes to service availability going forward. We thank you in advance for your assistance and patience.


As mentioned, we have had many great temporary and summer staff, however, and as mentioned above, to continue our growth in line with our Strategic Planning and to cover the Health and Wellbeing of existing staff or even to maintain our current level of service we need to attract suitably qualified and dedicated staff. We are having difficulty attracting suitable permanent replacements due to the lack of appropriate long term accommodation options in Whangamata. Although the Club has been smart in the purchase of property to assist, this is now full and due to our size and daily operations, we still require to attract more permanent staff if we are to maintain our momentum. With the Main Club debt now fully repaid we are in an enviable position to look at expanding our own solutions, however this will take time. In the short term and to achieve our goals we are asking our membership if they can be of assistance. To avoid the possible loss of staff and therefore loss of Club service due to the current market, we are appealing to members that may have accommodation options to get in touch with us. We are currently looking for accommodation for a mature single female staff member with a young child or any other options for mature singles or couples. We would also like to enlist members in the search for new staff. If you know of persons wishing to work in a large hospitality business with good working conditions and enjoy a great lifestyle and training then please get them in touch with us. We are ideally looking for staff 25 plus who may be looking for change and are ideally trained in hospitality service and management, although training can be provided. The number of operational activities and services offered at the Whangamata Club is very unique, challenging and rewarding.


On that note and despite current circumstance the Club Committee is extremely excited by the advancements being made in line with our strategic plan. We will shortly be engaging in an extensive member survey and enlisting a property consultant to consider future Club development. The Club AGM has been planned to take place on Sunday 11th of July at 10am where further details will be discussed. Nominations for vacant Committee positions will open from the 1st of May and close 31st May. Nomination forms will be available from that date.
